This course is a college preparatory course and is required by the Oregon University system. Prerequisites: Geometry, Teacher recommendation. This rigorous class is intended for students who plan to pursue a career in engineering, technology, or industry. This course is designed to help students understand deductive and inductive reasoning, use investigative thinking, and apply their discoveries to form theorems, all within an applied framework of engineering, manufacturing, construction tech, and automotive tech. Similar to the conventional geometry course, with an application in technology and industry. Length & Credit: 2 trimesters/1 credit/Math (May not be repeated for credit) Students are taught to relate the theoretical to the practical. Students will use investigative thinking and apply their discoveries to form theorems. This course is designed to help students understand deductive and inductive reasoning. Prerequisites: Algebra 1, teacher recommendation May not be repeated for credit. Some students may be placed in a year long (3 trimester) Geometry course that will earn 1.0 credit MA and 0.50 credit EL Students will study such areas as the field properties of the real numbers, linear and quadratic equations, factoring, inequalities, rational expressions, theory of exponents, radicals, statistics and other unified topics. Emphasis will be placed on investigative thinking and application. This is the first course in the general high school mathematics sequence for college preparation. May not be repeated for credit. Some students may be placed in a year long (3 trimester) Algebra 1 course that will earn 1.0 credit MA and 0.50 credit EL Length & Credit: 2 trimesters/1 credit/Math TI-83 Plus or TI-84 Plus calculators are preferred. Students taking courses at the Algebra 1 level or above are strongly encouraged to purchase a graphing calculator in order to complete required homework. Calculators will be provided for in-class use only. The school has a limited number of calculators for student use during class time. Graphing Calculators will be used frequently in several math courses.
